Experience
Dr Wong Jen San is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Singapore.
He specialises in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary-pancreatic (liver, pancreas, gall bladder and bile duct) conditions and liver transplantation.
Dr Wong obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Leicester, UK, in 1998 and received his early surgical training in the UK. He subsequently completed his Advanced Specialty Training in general surgery in Singapore General Hospital in 2008 obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in general surgery.
He underwent further training in advanced hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation during his Human Manpower Development Programme Clinical Fellowship in Living Donor Liver Transplantation in Japan under Professor Shinji Uemoto at Kyoto University Hospital and Professor Yukihiro Inomata at Kumamoto University Hospital.
Dr Wong is a visiting consultant to the liver transplant programme at Singapore General Hospital and was involved in the earliest successful split liver transplant at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and the earliest combined heart-liver transplant in Asia in 2009. He is also one of the earliest surgeons to perform robotic liver and pancreas surgeries in SGH.
During his time at SGH, Dr Wong was actively involved in various research projects in hepatopancreaticobiliary disease with a particular interest in colorectal cancer liver metastases and HCC. He was a member of the Steering Committee for the AHCC06 trial. He is also a founding member of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Association Singapore (HPBAS).
Dr Wong has been invited as a guest faculty or speaker at several regional surgical conferences on Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. He has also been an invited faculty on transplant surgical workshops.
