Experience

Dr Ng Beng Yeong is a psychiatrist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.

He is experienced in the management of psychiatric conditions for adults, children, and teenagers.

He was the former head of department in psychiatry at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

Dr Ng did his medical education and postgraduate training in psychiatry in Singapore. He was subsequently awarded a scholarship to pursue his interest in organic psychiatry and neuropsychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital, UK. He was a senior consultant psychiatrist in the department of psychiatry and sleep disorders unit at SGH. He also ran sessions at the urology centre at SGH, where he treated patients with sexual concerns.

He has conducted more than 100 outreach talks and programmes to educate the public on various mental health issues like insomnia, sleep problems, stress management, anxiety disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, chronic pain and psychosexual problems.

He is member of the residency advisory committee for psychiatry and was the deputy chief examiner for psychiatry exams and member of the standard setting committee for psychiatry exams.

Dr Ng is also known for his research in dissociative trance disorder, which was done when he worked at the Institute of Mental Health. He was president of the Singapore Sleep Society and the founding president of the College of Psychiatrists.

He is also a board member and editorial team of the Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment and co-editor of ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry. He is one of the editors of the textbooks for undergraduates ‘Mastering Psychiatry’. His book, 'Till the break of day: A history of mental health services in Singapore, 1841-1993' is often used as a reference text by many young psychiatrists and mental health professionals in the country.
