  • Dr Tan Chong Hiok is a cardiologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals and Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
  • He has dual accreditation in interventional cardiology and echocardiology.
  • After completing his cardiology training in 1999, Dr Tan went to Sydney, Australia, to hone his skills in echocardiology. During the 1-year stay, he also published several papers in this subspecialty. He is an accredited echocardiologist certified to perform 2D echo, treadmill stress echo, dobutamine stress echo and trans-oesophageal echocardiography.
  • Upon returning to Singapore, Dr Tan worked in Changi General Hospital. During this time, he took up training in interventional cardiology. He spent a year in Asan Medical Centre, South Korea, one of the world's leaders in stenting the left main artery.
  • Dr Tan spearheaded intervention via the radial approach in Changi General Hospital. He has given many presentations in international meetings. He has experience in performing stenting of the left main artery and chronic total occlusion (CTO), arteries which have been completely blocked for a long time.
  • He is one of very few cardiologists in Singapore who have opened up totally blocked arteries using the retrograde approach. He also has a great wealth of experience in doing complex cases in patients who declined or are unsuitable for bypass surgery.
  • Dr Tan has won the prestigious prize of ‘Best Case’ award at the 15th CTO club, an international conference for the intervention of chronic total occlusion organised by the world’s top chronic total occlusion operators.
  • Dr Tan is actively involved in research and teaching. He returns to the public institutions regularly to supervise, teach and perform both echo and interventional cases. He is an invited faculty member for various international conferences.
  • Prior to setting up his private practice, Dr Tan was the director and senior consultant of the Invasive Cardiovascular Laboratory at Changi General Hospital, as well as a visiting senior consultant at the National Heart Centre and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
