  • Dr Gurpal Singh is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore.
  • He subspecialises in orthopaedic oncology, joint replacement and sports injuries.
  • His clinical practice consists of bone and soft tissue tumours (benign and malignant), robotic-assisted joint replacement, complex reconstructions of the lower limb, and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgeries of the hip and knee including sports injuries and meniscus/ligament reconstruction.
  • He led a team of orthopaedic surgeons to successfully perform a case of robotic-assisted hip replacement surgery in National University Hospital (NUH) in December 2016.
  • He completed his advanced specialist training in orthopaedic surgery in 2011 and was awarded the inaugural College of Surgeons Gold Medal for being the top candidate in the FRCSEd(Orth) examination.
  • Prior to joining private practice, Dr Singh was serving as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at NUH, and assistant professor and research director of the department of orthopaedic surgery at NUS.
  • He also held an appointment at the National University Cancer Institute (NCIS) as a consultant in surgical oncology, and is active in teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as specialist doctors from the region.
  • Dr Singh is actively involved in research on increasing life span of joint replacements, newer materials in joint replacement and preventing infection and early failure of joint replacements. One of his specialist areas of focus is dealing with patients who have metal allergies or develop hypersensitivity reactions to joint replacements. He has published extensively in this field in leading peer-reviewed journals in Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • He has also led a team and won the Excellence award (Cost Reduction) in the Asian Hospital Management Awards in 2018 on ‘Improving blood transfusion rates in patients undergoing arthroplasty surgery – A multidisciplinary three-pronged patient blood management program’.
  • On a personal front, Dr Singh is an active volunteer and regularly holds public awareness talks on bone and joint problems/cancer. He also runs charity clinics for the needy.
