Your doctor can usually request a TEE to evaluate a stroke or transient ischaemic attacks ( TIA or mini-strokes) as a result of blood clots. It is also useful to assess heart conditions including congenital heart diseases, as well as the success of previous heart procedures including valve replacements and bypass surgeries.
TEE can find blood clots, tumours and abnormal masses within the heart, which may not be seen properly using standard echocardiographic images. It can also find particular valve problems including infected heart valves.
