  • Dr Kelvin Thia graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998. He completed his specialist training in gastroenterology at the Singapore General Hospital and has been a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Gastroenterology) Singapore since 2007.
  • Dr Thia was an advanced fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at Mayo Clinic in the United States from 2007 to 2008, under the personal mentorship of Professor William Sandborn. Following that, he was a consultant at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Singapore General Hospital from 2008 -2011. During his time there, he was a consultant in the department’s multidisciplinary IBD Centre and the Director of Nutrition Support Services. In 2011, Dr Thia received the hospital’s ‘Service with A Heart’ Award for his outstanding clinical work and service to his patients.
  • Apart from clinical service, Dr Thia has been active in research, being published in high-impact factor medical journals and having received various local and international awards for his research. He is an invited reviewer for prestigious peer-review journals like Gastroenterology, Gut and American Journal of Gastroenterology. In 2011, he completed a Master’s programme in Clinical Investigation at the National University of Singapore.
  • Dr Thia believes in giving back to the community and has been active in medical education at all levels, from the genera lpublic to the department’s advanced specialty trainees. He was appointed clinical tutor to the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and Clinical Physician Faculty Member of the Singhealth Internal Medicine Residency Programme.
  • Dr Thia joined Raffles Hospital as consultant gastroenterologist from 2012 and was also a member of the Raffles Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee, helping to develop a culture of safe prescribing habits. In August 2014, HOPE Gastroenterology and Liver Clinic was set up to fulfil his vision of providing hope and dedicated medical care to patients which is holistic, optimal, personalised and ethical.
