在加入私人诊所之前，他是新加坡国立大学心脏中心（National University Heart Centre, NUHCS）的血管、血管内膜和主动脉外科医生高级顾问。
Choong 医生毕业于英国伦敦帝国学院医学院 (Imperial College London School of Medicine)。他曾在英国和澳大利亚的伦敦圣玛丽医院 (St Mary's Hospital) 帝国血管科接受血管、血管内手术和主动脉手术培训，并在澳大利亚布里斯班皇家妇女医院 (Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital) 担任国际研究员。他因研究血管内手术而被英国华威大学（Warwick University）授予博士学位。
在英国和澳大利亚执业后，他离开了英国国王学院医院（King's College Hospital）的顾问职位，加入了北大医疗中心。在 NUHCS，他引进了腹膜后主动脉瘤开放修复术。他也是新加坡最早对胸腹主动脉瘤进行内脏杂交修复的医生。
他曾任新加坡国立大学杨潞龄医学院外科系高级顾问和副教授。
