  • Dr Ramasami Nandakumar is a cardiologist accredited to practise at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital. His clinical interests are the management of hypertension, complex interventional cardiology (radial access) supported by intra-vascular imaging (IVUS and OCT), bio-absorbable stents, CT coronary imaging and cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Dr Nandakumar is one of the few cardiologists in Singapore who worked as a consultant interventional cardiologist in a substantive position in the UK before coming to Singapore. He is doubly accredited in cardiology and internal medicine by the Joint Committee for Higher Medical Training (JCHMT) of the Royal College of Physicians, UK. He is currently also the only cardiologist from Singapore serving as an international examiner for the UK Royal College of Physicians.
  • Dr Nandakumar underwent undergraduate medical training in the Coimbatore Medical College in Tamil Nadu, India before taking up further training in Wales and England in 1995. In 1999, after he was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), he undertook research in cardiac MRI at the Grampian University Hospitals NHS Trust in Aberdeen, Scotland with grants from the Myotonic Dystrophy Campaign (UK), TENOVUS (Scotland) and from the Chest, Heart and Stroke Society (CHSS), Scotland.
  • Dr Nandakumar obtained a National Training Number in the All-Wales Higher Speciality Training Programme in Cardiology with the Welsh Deanery in 2009. He then undertook a JCHMT accredited interventional training programme in London under the tutelage of Dr K. Beatt and Professor Carlo di Mario, both stalwarts of interventional cardiology. Having completed the CCT in 2009, he became a consultant cardiologist in Croydon University Hospitals, London before taking up a substantive consultant post in the North Staffordshire and Goole NHS trust in England. He moved to Asia in 2011-12, and to Singapore in 2013. He was a senior interventional cardiologist in Ng Teng Fong Hospital (NTFGH) until 2016.
  • Dr Nandakumar is part of the Ministry of Health, Health Technology Advisory Committee (HTAC) subcommittee for Devices, a senior clinical lecturer of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and most recently served as Associate Program Director for the Senior Residency Program in Cardiology and as Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation service in NTFGH.
  • Dr Nandakumar has been elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) and the Royal College of Physicians (London). He plays an active role in the Royal College of Physicians (UK) especially in his capacity as MRCP Examiner. He is among the pioneer batch of cardiologists at NTFGH and was instrumental in helping to set up many cardiac services in the hospital, especially in interventional cardiology. He acted as director for the interventional cardiac laboratory and served as lead for cardiac rehabilitation services.
  • Dr Nandakumar regularly presents at international conferences and supports trainee cardiologists to present at international conferences. As a specialist registrar, he has received travel fellowships, has been faculty to the European Interventional Cardiology Conference and won second prize in interventional cardiology. He continues to teach paramedical staff in NTFGH and in the region, and continues to publish in peer-reviewed international journals such as PACE, CCI and HEART. He remains a visiting senior consultant at Ng Teng Fong Hospital and National University Hospital, Singapore.
