  • Dr Tony Setiobudi is an orthopaedic surgeon with more than 12 years of clinical experience in the field and is currently practising at Spring Hope Orthopaedic Spine Surgery in Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. His specialty interests are in spine health issues such as lower back pain, scoliosis, slipped disc, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and ankylosing spondylitis. He does major spine surgery such as scoliosis correction surgery, surgery to correct hunched back postures and spine tumour surgery.
  • Immediately after graduating from the School of Medicine at Flinders University, Adelaide, Dr Tony started working as a doctor in Singapore at National University Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Singapore General Hospital and KK Hospital. He underwent basic and advance specialist training in orthopaedic surgery. His training was completed as he obtained his postgraduate Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in orthopaedic surgery. Subsequently, he received the Health Manpower Development Programme award to do further subspecialty training in spine surgery.
  • During the Spine Fellowship in Brisbane Australia in years 2011 – 2012, Dr Tony had the privilege to learn from world-renowned spine surgeons for specific skills in spine surgery. These surgeons included A/Prof Robert Labrum, Dr Geoff Askin, Dr Matthew Scott-Young and A/Prof Richard Williams.
  • During his stay in Brisbane, he was also involved in teaching medical students at Queensland University as a clinical lecturer.
  • Prior to his move to private practice, Dr Tony was a consultant orthopaedic and spine surgeon at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Alexandra Hospital, where he taught and trained orthopaedic residents and junior doctors in the department of orthopaedic surgery. He regularly performed major spine surgery such as scoliosis correction surgery, surgery to correct hunched back postures and spine tumour surgery.
  • Dr Tony remains a visiting consultant spine surgeon at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He also actively teaches medical students at the National University of Singapore as a clinical senior lecturer.
  • Apart from his busy clinical work and teaching, Dr Tony is actively involved in medical research. He has a number of research publications in international journals in various fields such as spine tumour, spine fractures, lumbar disc degeneration, osteoporosis and hip fractures in the elderly.
  • Dr Tony has been invited to speak in various meetings locally and regionally to talk about spine health in medical forums as well as in public forums.
  • Dr Tony is passionate about sports (badminton, table tennis, soccer, swimming and running), art (drawing, painting and photography), music (piano and guitar), as well as travelling.
