Dr Mashfiqul Siddiqui is an orthopaedic surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, with expertise in complex spinal surgery. His areas of interest include spinal degeneration (in the neck and back), prolapsed intervertebral disc (slipped disc), cervical disc replacement (replacing the discs in the neck), spinal deformity (such as scoliosis) and spinal tumours.
Dr Mashfiqul is well-versed in minimal-access spine surgery, re-do or revision surgery, and computer-navigated spine surgery. He is one of the few surgeons in Singapore experienced in dealing with the removal of massive sacral (bottom of the spine) tumours and subsequent reconstruction of the spine to the pelvis.
Dr Mashfiqul completed his medical studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003. He subsequently pursued his postgraduate training in orthopaedic surgery in Singapore and obtained his fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He later underwent further training in spinal surgery at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the University of Alberta Hospital and the Stollery Children’s Hospital, under renowned spinal surgeons from both orthopaedic and neurosurgical backgrounds.
Dr Mashfiqul is currently a visiting consultant to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. His training and experience has equipped him to treat both adults and children.
Dr Mashfiqul is also active in teaching medical students at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School, as well as orthopaedic surgery residents and family medicine trainees. He has been a faculty member teaching both general orthopaedic and spinal surgery to local and international orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr Mashfiqul has presented at numerous meetings both local and international including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, Eurospine, the International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques, the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy, the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedic Sports and Traumatology, and the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association.
