Dr Alvin Ng is a nephrologist practising in Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.

He has clinical interests in peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis, chronic kidney diseases and hypertension.

He is experienced in the management of a wide range of kidney-related conditions including general nephrology, glomerulonephritis and transplantation.

Dr Ng graduated from the University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2002 and completed his basic training in internal medicine in 2007. He later underwent advanced training in renal medicine at several hospitals including the Auckland City Hospital (ACH), North Shore Hospital (NSH), and Middlemore Hospital (MH). He worked alongside the Auckland Renal Transplant Group at ACH and the Home Hemodialysis Services and Outpatient Satellite Hemodialysis at MH.

He attained his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2010 and was then appointed as a consultant nephrologist at NSH.

Returning to Singapore in 2012, Dr Ng joined the department of renal medicine in Changi General Hospital (CGH). He was appointed as the director of peritoneal dialysis, the renal lead for the Eastern Community Health Outreach programme in educating patients on chronic kidney disease prevention, and the chairman for Morbidity and Mortality committee at CGH.

Dr Ng’s other contributions included being a member of the MOH Peritoneal Dialysis Workgroup, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the Medical Information Committee and the Serious Reportable Event Review Committee.

He served as an executive committee member of the Singapore Society of Nephrology from 2017 and for the 18th Asian Colloquium in Nephrology Conference in 2019. He was an invited judge for the 2017 Singapore Society of Nephrology Annual Scientific Meeting and the Singapore Society of Nephrology Renal Residents’ Review and Retreat in April 2016.

Dr Ng was an investigator in research trials on new medication used in delaying chronic kidney disease progression and on a new treatment for lupus nephritis. He presented in international meetings on the outcomes of emergent peritoneal dialysis patients and has published multiple research articles in both local and international journals.

He has been actively involved in the medical education and training for undergraduates, postgraduate doctors and nurses. He was a senior clinical lecturer at NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and an adjunct assistant professor for Dukes-NUS Medical School. Dr Ng was also involved in several programmes such as the SingHealth Residency, the SingHealth Junior Residency, and the Renal Medicine Senior Residency programmes.

Over the course of his career, he has won numerous awards such as the Singapore Medical Journal Reviewer Recognition Award (2019), SingHealth’s Silver Award for Outstanding and Commendable Service (2019), CGH’s Best Service Award (2015), and the Eastern Health Alliance’s Silver Award for Outstanding and Commendable Service (2014).
