Robotic Surgery

  • Understanding the procedure

Robotic Surgery combines the skills of our surgeons with the precision of the da Vinci® Surgical System to deliver a better clinical outcome. By overcoming the challenges of traditional open surgery, the da Vinci® Surgical System allows our surgeons greater precision, dexterity and control, requiring only 1-2 cm incisions. Robotic Surgery can be used for most conditions that are currently treated using laparoscopic surgeries and is ideal for:

    • Treatment of gynaecological conditions such as Cervical and Uterine Cancer, Uterine Fibroids, Endometriosis, Hysterectomy, Uterine Prolapse, Menorrhagia (excessive bleeding)
    • Coronary Artery Bypass
    • Knee pain caused by osteoarthritis
    • Prostate cancer removal
    • Thyroid removal
    • Surgical Oncology for the removal of cancer tissue from sensitive parts of an organ or a tissue
    • While most people may be suited as candidates for the robotic da Vinci® Surgery, it may not be right for everyone. Your specialist will determine if you are suitable for robotic surgery. Click HERE (link to FAQ) for a brief FAQ that we have compiled for you.

  • The da Vinci® Surgical System is an advanced surgical platform that consists of an ergonomically designed surgeon’s console, a patient cart with four articulate robotic arms, a high-performance vision system and patented EndoWrist instruments.

Your surgeon will operate the system while seated at the da Vinci® console. This empowers the surgeon to perform  delicate and complex operations with high accuracy and dexterity using a forceps-like master control while viewing highly magnified 3D images of the interior of your body.

The robotic arms are inserted through tiny surgical incisions and act as an extension of the surgeon’s arm, mirroring every hand movement and enabling delicate and complex operations to be done safely and accurately.

  • Robotic surgeries can deliver greatly improved patient benefits as compared to traditional laparoscopic or open procedures. These include:

    • Smaller incisions, which translates to reduced risk of infection, less blood loss and minimal post-operative scarring
    • Less trauma, resulting in reduced pain, less medication and a shorter recovery time
    • Simpler and more precise stitching of fine threads
    • Better clinical outcomes
    • Shorter hospitalisation, which means lower hospital bills and a faster return to your everyday routine

For many women, a hysterectomy is often associated with feelings of loss and emotional distress. Robotic surgery enables quicker physical healing so patients can focus on emotional healing.
