  • Understanding the Procedure

    Robotic surgery combines the skills of our surgeons with the accuracy of the da Vinci® surgical system to give patients an improved clinical outcome. By overcoming the challenges of traditional open surgery, the da Vinci® surgical system allows our surgeons better accuracy, dexterity and control, needing only 1–2cm cuts. Robotic surgery can be used for most conditions that are currently treated using laparoscopic/minimally invasive keyhole surgeries and is ideal for:

    • Treatment of gynaecological conditions, such as cervical and uterine cancer, uterine fibroids (non-cancerous growths on uterus), endometriosis (growth of uterus tissue on other organs), hysterectomy (removal of uterus), uterine prolapse (sagging of uterus), menorrhagia (excessive menstrual bleeding)
    • Prostate cancer removal
    • Thyroid removal
    • Surgical oncology for the removal of cancer tissue from sensitive parts of an organ or tissue

  • The da Vinci® surgical system is a modern surgical platform that consists of an ergonomically designed surgeon's console, a patient cart with 4 articulate robotic arms, a high-performance vision system and patented EndoWrist® instruments.

    Your surgeon operates the system while seated at the da Vinci® console. This enables the surgeon to perform delicate and complex operations with accuracy and dexterity using a forceps-like master control while viewing the magnified 3D images of the interior of your body.

    The robotic arms are inserted through tiny surgical cuts and act as an extension of he surgeon's arm, mirroring every hand movement and enabling delicate and complex operations to be done.

    • Smaller cuts, which means reduced infection risk, less blood loss and minimal post-operative scarring
