  • Dr Ooi graduated with his medical degree (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 1992 and became a surgical fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland (FRCSEd, FRCSGlag, FRCSI) in 1996. He then received his training in colorectal surgery at the Department of Colorectal Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital. Dr Ooi was awarded Health Manpower Development Plan scholarships to further his training in advanced colorectal surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia in 1998 and then at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio in the United States in 2002, under the guidance of the world renowned colorectal surgeons such as Professor Victor Fazio and Dr James Church.
  • Prior to entering private practice, he held several positions at the Singapore General Hospital, including Director of minimally-invasive surgery, senior consultant of the Department of Colorectal Surgery and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre and Tripartite Robotic Assisted Surgery Committee Deputy Chairman. In addition to that, Dr Ooi was a visiting senior consultant at the National Cancer Centre and Changi General Hospital and honorary secretary of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons of Singapore (2004/2005). Dr Ooi has also played a part in educating the next generation of doctors, by serving as an associate professor of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Senior Lecturer of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore.
