  • A general surgeon with more than 15 years of experience in the field, Dr Mona Tan currently practises out of her clinic at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. She specialises in breast conservation surgery that allows women to avoid the trauma of a mastectomy or the potential complications of reconstructive surgery.
  • Dr Tan graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1991) and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (FRCS, 1995). With a keen interest in surgical treatment of breast diseases, Dr Tan undertook subspecialty training in breast surgical oncology and endocrine surgery at the New South Wales Breast Cancer Institute and University of Sydney in 2000.
  • Prior to coming into private practice, Dr Tan was a consultant at the Department of General Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. From 2001 to 2003, she also served as the Head of the Breast Service.
  • Wherever she went, Dr Tan continued to push the frontiers of her specialty. She is most known for the new techniques that she developed in sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary dissection and oncoplastic procedures in breast conservation surgery. The unique surgical approaches have been published in several internationally respected medical journals such as The American Journal of Surgery, The Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. In addition, she fine-tuned currently available surgical approaches which have resulted in positive outcomes for the patients. These improvements were also reported in prestigious journals such as Lancet Oncology, the Journal of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and The Annals of Surgical Oncology.
  • Because of her vast experience in breast conservation surgery, Dr Tan is frequently an invited speaker at various local and regional conferences and symposiums. She has also written several papers on various topics pertaining to the care and treatment of breast disease.
