Experience
Dr John Yam is an obstetrician & gynaecologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
He has special interests in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery (keyhole & conventional methods for gynaecological conditions) and pregnancy care, in particular monitoring of the mother and her foetus during labour and delivery.
He received his medical training from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and received his postgraduate training in obstetrics & gynaecology at the National University Hospital & KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Singapore after his internship & clinical rotations in surgery & neonatology.
Dr Yam is currently an assistant professor at the Duke University (USA) – NUS Graduate Medical School. He was formerly a clinical tutor in the Faculty of Medicine, NUS, from 2000 – 2006. Dr Yam has been a trainer for the yearly Regional MRCOG Part II examination course, Singapore, from 2003 – 2020. He was also an examiner for the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Clinical Performance Examination in 2012.
He is also a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (London) (MRCOG), a fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore), a fellow of the Chapter of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (Singapore) and a fellow of the International College of Surgeons (USA).
Besides lecturing medical undergraduates at the NUS, Dr Yam has published numerous articles in scientific journals and has also contributed to many books on obstetrics & gynaecology. He also gives frequent public talks and lectures in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region.
Dr Yam received accolades from both patients and the hospital administration for his clinical service standards, including the Excellent Service Award 2005 (for outstanding contribution & commitment to excellent service) – KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital-EXSA Singapore, and the Service from the Heart Exemplary Award 2005 – 2006 – KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital. In 2012, he received the Faculty Appreciation Award for Outstanding O & G Leadership, as voted by the graduating class of 2014, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.
