Dr Chan Chung Yip is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore.
His subspecialties include hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and liver transplantation.
He was senior consultant and head of the department of hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and transplant surgery at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He continues to be a visiting consultant at SGH and Changi General Hospital.
He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed his training in general surgery. He received further training in liver surgery and transplantation at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung Medical Centre, Taiwan, as well as in laparoscopic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, South Korea.
Dr Chan is one of the earliest doctors to perform laparoscopic surgery of the liver, pancreas and bile duct in Singapore. He is keenly involved in developing and promoting laparoscopic HPB surgery in Singapore and regionally. He has been practising medicine for more than 25 years.
He was the lead surgeon in the donor surgery for the living donor liver transplant programme in SGH. Since 2019, the donor surgeries have been performed laparoscopically by Dr Chan and his team.
Besides his clinical work, he was an adjunct associate professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He was the president of the HepatoPancreatoBiliary Association of Singapore and a member of the clinical competency committee in the general surgery residency programme of SingHealth.
He has published more than 200 papers. He was awarded the SingHealth GCEO Outstanding Clinician Award, and the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) at the National Day Awards in 2021.
