Experience

Dr Clarissa Cheng is an ophthalmologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.

Her clinical interests include complex cataract surgery, retinal detachment repair, diabetic eye disease management, macular hole repair, epiretinal membrane peel, retinal lasers, intravitreal injection, myopia degeneration and general ophthalmology. She also treats pterygium, glaucoma, dry eyes and blepharitis.

She was a consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and is currently serving as a visiting consultant in their ophthalmology department. During her time at TTSH, she also established the nurse-led intravitreal service.

She has been practising medicine for more than 15 years.

Dr Cheng completed her undergraduate medical training at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry. She obtained her master’s degree in ophthalmology at the National University of Singapore. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK, and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

She was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award and underwent clinical fellowship in retina at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, UK, where she trained in small incision vitrectomy surgery, complex retinal detachment repair, macular surgery, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, and ocular trauma.

Apart from her clinical work, Dr Cheng’s other areas of interests include education and research. She is a clinical lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. She has presented at numerous conferences internationally and published in major peer-reviewed journals.

She is a recipient of the Long Service Award (10 years) at TTSH.
