Experience

Dr Francis Chin is a medical oncologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.

He specialises in radiation oncology and is experienced in a range of cancers, in particular breast cancers, gynaecological conditions and gastrointestinal cancers, prostate cancers, and paediatrics and soft tissue sarcomas.

He has more than 20 years of experience.

Dr Chin worked at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) and continues to be a visiting consultant at KK Women and Children’s Hospital (KKH).

He is an ASEAN and Chevening scholar, receiving scholarships from the Singapore and British Government and participated in a European Union-sponsored master’s degree in radiation biology. Dr Chin is the earliest student from Asia to attend this radiobiology course.

He was on the steering committee of the Viva-KKH paediatric brain and solid tumour programme. Dr Chin is deputy chair of the institutional research boards in oncology/ haematology at SingHealth, with concurrent appointments with Health Sciences Authority. He is also a member of the SingHealth quality assurance committee which looks into the clinical risk management across SingHealth’s cluster hospitals. He was a member of the SingHealth NCCS proton therapy implementation committee and a lead principal investigator in a National Research Foundation programme grant for proton therapy.

Besides his clinical work, he held academic appointments as adjunct assistant professor, SingHealth DUKE-NUS oncology academic clinical programme (ACP) and paediatrics ACP. His radiation oncology projects have been selected internationally by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as one of the highlights at IAEA’s technical experts meeting.

Dr Chin was the president-elect of the South East Asian Radiation Oncology Group. He was an editorial board member of the Royal College of Radiologist, UK, and is also a local and regional expert in radiation biology and a chapter author in the Oxford Textbook of Critical Care (second edition) on radiation poisoning.
