Dr Jimmy Hon is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in various adult cardiac and thoracic procedures. Cardiac surgery procedures include minimally invasive aortic valve surgery, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) surgery, high-risk coronary artery surgery, cardiac valvular surgery, heart failure surgery, surgery of the thoracic aorta and extra-corporal membrane oxygenation. Thoracic surgery procedures include open or video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), lung resection for cancerous or benign growth, pneumothorax surgery, pleural effusion surgery, chest drain insertion and management and biopsies of mediastinal tissues.
Prior to joining private practice, he was a senior consultant surgeon in the department of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS).
Dr Hon graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School in the UK. He gained membership from both the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, UK, and was later conferred fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, UK. He has been practising medicine for more than 25 years.
He was the lead surgeon who launched the TAVI programme at NUHCS, and travels widely to teach and proctor many TAVI teams around Southeast Asia, China and Greater China region. He is also regularly seen at TAVI training workshops and on podiums at major regional and international conferences presenting on TAVI topics.
Besides his clinical work, Dr Hon is an assistant professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Dr Hon is a published author with contributions to peer-reviewed research. He is a recipient of the Public Service Award (Innovation).
