Dr Kan Yuk Man is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
He is experienced in upper gastrointestinal (GI), bariatric and surgical oncology, with specialty focus on minimally invasive/keyhole surgery. He offers specialised surgical services including keyhole cancer surgeries of the oesophagus and stomach, alongside comprehensive cancer screening using diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). Furthermore, he is experienced in treating a broad range of general conditions such as simple and complex hernias (for both adults and children), gallstones, haemorrhoids/piles and hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms).
Dr Kan was previously the lead surgeon in upper GI surgery at Alexandra Hospital.
He trained on upper GI and hepatobiliary surgery at the Addenbrooke’s University Tertiary Surgical Unit in the UK, where he spent over five years managing complex upper GI conditions (acid reflux, stomach and oesophageal cancer). He then undertook additional advanced fellowships at The National Cancer Centre and Cancer Institute, Japan; Prince of Wales Hospital (Chinese University of Hong Kong), Hong Kong; and Princess Alexandra Hospital, Australia. These further honed his skills in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery for stomach and oesophageal cancers, as well as the management of benign upper GI disorders. He is recognised as one of the few surgeons in the region to able to perform laparoscopic surgery for stomach and oesophageal cancers. He also received the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship and did his training at the Alfred Hospital Trauma Service, Australia.
He has also been performing metabolic and bariatric surgery for overweight and obese patients since 2002, including his first laparoscopic gastric bypass. He continues to manage patients ranging from 100kg to more than 280kg in weight.
Besides his clinical work, Dr Kan is frequently invited to conduct surgical workshops across the region, especially in laparoscopic hernia and upper GI surgery. He has held various training and educational leadership roles and has presented at medical conferences across the US, UK, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific regions.
He is a recipient of several Service Ambassador Awards for Patient Care.
