Experience
Dr Sim Hsien Lin is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
She specialises in colorectal surgery, with a subspecialty interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, surgical management of inflammatory bowel diseases, complex anal fistula, as well as transanal endoscopic microsurgery, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
She graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2002, before further obtaining her Master of Medicine (Surgery) in 2007. Upon completion of her specialisation in general surgery, she became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in 2011, winning the Gold Medal award at the FRCS Exit Examination that year.
In 2013, she received further subspeciality training at St Mark’s Hospital, a specialist bowel hospital in London.
Prior to joining private practice, Dr Sim was a senior consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, a visiting consultant at Admiralty Medical Centre, and an associate programme director with the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Residency Programme.
In addition, she previously held roles as an adjunct assistant professor at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, adjunct lecturer at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU), and service lead of geriatric surgical service at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Besides her clinical and teaching appointments, she is an executive committee member of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons, the Singapore Cancer Society, and a member of the Geriatric Surgery Society of Singapore. She has also participated in many other committees and workgroups including the member endoscopy committee, 6th vital signs workgroup and member clinical audit workgroup committee.
Dr Sim was an organising chair for several events including a gastrointestinal public forum and a GP forum on managing and partnering care of colorectal patients in the community. She has received several awards including the Service Champion Awards and Teaching Excellence Award.
She has a few publications in general surgery, is active in conducting clinical trials in the field of colorectal diseases, and had previously published a book chapter on haemorrhoids.
