Dr Yim Heng Boon is a gastroenterologist with more than 15 years experience in the field. He provides specialised care in all general gastroenterology and hepatology conditions at his clinic at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
Upon his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1990), he underwent basic training and subsequently obtained his postgraduate qualifications (MRCP Int Med, 1996). In 1999, through the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) scholarship, he trained in advanced endoscopy at the Harvard Medical School’s teaching affiliate, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA. A second HMDP award followed in 2007. This time he trained in endoscopic surgery for early gastric cancer at the National Cancer Centre in Tokyo, Japan.
Prior to establishing his private practice, Dr Yim was a senior consultant and Deputy Head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. During his tenure, he served as Director of the Endoscopy Centre as well as Chairman of the Endoscopy Committee.
Teaching is one of Dr Yim’s passions and he continues to groom and mould future generations of doctors as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is regularly invited as both local and international faculty to give lectures and to perform endoscopic live demonstrations. In 2007, he was appointed Visiting Honorary Lecturer to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of North Sumatra in Indonesia. Additionally, he has been serving as Visiting Associate Professor to Vietnam’s Ministry of Health’s Choray Hospital since 2010.
Dr Yim’s commitment to the field extends into the editorial aspects too. He is the present editor for the international journal Endoscopic Ultrasound and a reviewer for several international journals such as Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr Yim himself is well published, particularly in the field of endoscopy, and has several peer-reviewed journal papers to his name.
